Following the publication of her op-ed in The San Diego Union-Tribune, Dr. Melissa Campos was interviewed by ABC 10 News San Diego to discuss growing calls for a sugary drink tax following the 2018 preemption. Dr. Campos cited other cities that enacted sugar-sweetened beverage (SSB) taxes prior to the preemption and the positive impact those cities have seen in reducing in SSB purchases. She also noted how revenue from taxes can be reinvested back in the community to support a broad spectrum of community programming.
