Description

The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed profound social and economic inequities across the US, leaving low-income and minority communities disproportionately burdened with disease and poorer health outcomes. Dr. Alicia Fernández, Professor of Medicine and Director, Latinx Center of Excellence at UCSF, has been leading local and regional response efforts to the COVID-19 pandemic especially targeting the Latinx community. As a health disparities researcher, Dr. Fernández will reflect on her vast experience and research to address issues of health equity in public health interventions.

Following this presentation, attendees will be able to: 

1. Describe social determinants of health and chronic disease burden among Latinx communities in California

2. Explain a health equity framework through which to approach PSE interventions

3. Discuss the role of community and community-based organizations in developing and advancing equitable PSE interventions
